Hi Steve,
Thanks for your question, it is actually a really common one but a difficult one to answer as everyone is very different. Stopping self-harm can be hard, but just take one day at a time and try to talk to people along the way. Talking is especially helpful for working through some of the reasons, and you might also find the need for some distractions in those difficult moments as well. Have a brainstorm of what works for you! All the best, keep posting on here as you go along your journey, encouragement from others can be a really good boost :)

Donna is right with what she says about it being hard to stop. Many people will not understand the reasons why people self harm and think it is as easy as: ‘just stop doing it’. The reasons behind self harm as as many as the people who self harm and sometimes we need to go back and look at the reasons we started self harming. This often needs a skilled person to kindly and gently, but firmly help you understand why you do what you do. Try and find a professional person who will be able to give you the time and help you need and keep in touch with us in order to get further help if you need this. Keep going. You may be stronger than you think. Kind regards.
