Cycle of Addiction

Over the next few weeks, we're going to be posting some self-help tools for you to use and share on your journey to recovery from self-harm. This week we want to help you think about addiction and the hold it can begin to have over our lives. Self-harm is controlling in it’s very nature and by having and remembering the addiction cycle it can help us to reduce our harm, but more than this it helps us to remember that it is not something that is cured or goes away overnight. Remember lapse and re-lapse are appropriate parts of recovery and that you are not alone. Take a screen shot of this, have a picture of it on your phone, do anything you can to remind yourself that there is hope, with the right help and support you can live a life free of self-harm. ALUMINA

Alumina is a free, online 7 week course for young people struggling with self-harm. Each course has up to 8 young people, all accessing the sessions from their own phones, tablets or laptops across the UK. The courses take place on different evenings of the week and are run by friendly, trained counsellors and volunteer youth workers. You don’t need an adult to refer you or sign you up, and no-one will see or hear you during the sessions – you’ll just join in via the chatbox. We want to help you to find your next steps towards recovery, wherever you are on your journey.
