Will thinking about suicide make him want to do it

My son is thinking about suicide in general. He says he keeps seeing himself do it and wonders about how he would do it. He has said he doesn’t want to but is worried that these thoughts will MAKE him want to. He also said he did think that if he did it he would then know how it felt. He seems quite happy and we’re doing lots of walking, talking and distraction but I really don’t know how to approach this. A teacher told him that the brain is curious which is why he may be wondering about it but I don’t know where to start. Has anybody else had this?
